Combining Hexagon’s innovative technologies, a two metre bed capacity, and the latest PC-DMIS measurement and inspection software, Smiths Engineering have acquired a comprehensive solution to deliver maximum inspection efficiency and confidence.

Typically, components inspected for customers can be used in sectors/industries such as aerospace, rail and automotive. The versatile design of the Global Lite CMM means it can be upgraded to utilise other technologies so as to future proof the business.

Utilising the highest standard of manual tool presetting, the company has gained improvements in tool life, better surface finishes, and increasing overall process reliability in production.

As part of the company’s continued commitment to investing in best practice and quality, Smiths Engineering have recently added a high performance toolholder and shrink-fit system, purchasing a Haimer Power Clamp shrink-fit machine.

The use of low cost, state-of-the-art coil technology increases flexibility and comfort to the process, whereby with just one turn, operators can set the coil to the size of the shrink fit chucks, both in length and diameter. Stop discs are no longer necessary.

The investment in the technology of the future has provided the company with better tool rigidity in the tool holder, ultimately producing a better finish on the job. It has afforded the company to achieve repeatable uniformity in tooling setup and equally consistent results in part size accuracy, surface finish and tool life.

Smiths Engineering Works (Northern Ireland) Ltd is excited to add the Doosan VCF 850 to our already extensive range of the latest high precision machining centres with simultaneous multi-axis control.

This multi-purpose vertical machining centre is the perfect solution for a diverse range of large format applications. The travelling column machine with full 5-Axis capability is equipped to offer large X-Axis travels of 3 meters as well as a range of high-productivity and flexible options including a rotary table, centre partition, pick-up magazine, and more. Its high specification will enhance the company’s current range of CNC equipment in delivering unrivalled performance and versatility.

The addition of the Doosan VCF 850 is another big advance in Smiths Engineering’s high tolerance, high production capability. It is through such continued investment in the latest machining technologies that allow Smiths Engineering to take on the most demanding jobs at affordable costs and unbeatable response times.
